Our Zoo Visit - A Big 'Thanks' to our families.

Room One and the Kowhai Team had such a great time at the zoo.
We wanted to say "Thank You" to our families for supporting us with our trip - with our money,  our picnic lunches and as helpers.
We wrote this "Thank You" note together, with some of our favourite photos.

Our Inquiry 'Out and About'

We did a brainstorm of places we could go in Hamilton.
We can go on the bus for a small cost to get us to the places we would like to visit.
Here is our mind map of places we could go -

We talked about places we could go that were free - these were places we could go to on the bus  - we found out that the park at Claudelands would be fun because we could play, have a picnic and have a ride on the bus on the way.

Our Term Four Inquiry - 'Out and About in Hamilton'

Our Kowhai Flower Art

Our Class Gardens

The Operetta - A Change is Gonna Come - we are learning what we can change in our world and how to do it.

We performed with Room 2 in the Operetta. We sang and we danced.
We sang about being happy, about sharing, caring and helping others.

Ava said,
"When I was in the Operetta, I  was  wearing a wig.
I was singing lots of songs on the stage  too.
We were singing the ‘Blue Beat’ and  ‘Put a Little Love
in Your Heart’. We even sang ‘Take the Weather with You’. People were watching me.
The teachers were watching me. My Mum and dad are going to watch  me. I saw my friends, they saw me too. When I am on the stage, I feel big. I love being on the stage in the Operetta."

 Alexus said,
"It was very dark. I couldn’t see in the dark, but when I saw the lights in the Hall,
I wasn’t scared.
When it’s out turn, I like  singing  ‘If you’re happy and you know it’,
‘Do the Blue Beat’ and ‘Put a Little  Love in your Heart’."

Eric said,
"I  am  going  to  the  Operetta.
All  the  boys  have  to  wear  a  bow  tie.
We  have  to  do  the  ‘Blue Beat’ and ‘Put  a  Little  Love  in your  Heart’.
We  are  going  to  have  fun.
I  am  going  to  be  shy.
My  Mum  and  Dad  are  going  to  the  Operetta."

Changing States

We  are learning about 'Change'.
We are 'Change Agents'.
We can change our feelings. We can change from sad to happy.
We can change our mood. We can change from grumpy to happy.
Kruze said,
"We can even change our behaviour."

Pyjama Day

Today was Pyjama Day.
We came to school in our pyjamas!
Some people wore their slippers
and their dressing gowns.
Even the teachers came to school
in their pyjamas.
Room One donated $20.50 to support our sister school
in Uganda - Hamilton Buike.
The school raised $215.00.

Autumn - A State of Change

Our new inquiry topic is Change of State.

It is now Autumn and this is a season of change.
We looked at the trees in our school and Kruze took some photos of the trees by the office.
In the Orchard, we used the Kidpix tools to draw our own autumn trees.

Firewise

For the last two weeks we have been learning how to keep ourselves safe by being 'Firewise'.

The best way to keep ourselves safe is to have smoke alarms that work.

Please, Mum and Dad, check that they work and get new batteries, if you need them.

We  learned about staying 'A Metre from the Heater'.

We learned about 'Tools and Toys' -
this means we give lighters and matches to grown-ups
so we keep ourselves safe.

We learned to
'Get Down, Get Low, Get Out, Fast'
if there is a fire.
