Our Spellathon - as part of our inquiry we had a spellathon. We were learning and 'earning'. We raised $100.00 to donate to 'Kiwis for Kiwis' - this means we can help look after one kiwi for a whole year - Well done, Room One children and thank you to family and friends for your support.

Kia ora,
I just want to take a moment to thank Room One fpr their awesome fundraising effort. It is always wonderful to see some of the youngest New Zealanders get behind and support the conservation of kiwi and the places they live.
Kind regards,
Paul

Spring is Planting Time.

Today we got a pumpkin plant from Room 13. They have sprouted some of the seeds that came out of the giant pumpkins grown all over Hamilton last year. They were collected at the Hamilton Gardens after the pumpkins were all rolled down a hill and smashed.
"We planted the pumpkin plant in our class garden.
We will have to water it and feed it," said Regahn.

Our Zoo Visit - We had a fantastic day, visiting the zoo. Thanks to all our parents and caregivers for supporting our trip. Look at some of our fun experiences.

Pierce said, "We saw lots of birds. Will there be a beak?  Yes, there will be a beak. Every bird has a beak.

Jackson said, "I saw a peacock. It was showing off by spreading it's feathers out."
Cassia said, " I had a zoo map. I went to the wetlands. I thought there might be some giraffes - and there were some giraffes.

We are Fire Wise.

We know that we need smoke alarms in our homes.
We know that the smoke alarms have to be tested so we know that they work.
We know that if there was a fire in our classroom or bedroom, we have to -
GET DOWN, GET LOW AND GET OUT FAST!

Welcome Back to Term 4.

We are learning to be 'Fire Wise'.
We are learning about tools for adults and toys for children.
We used Kidspiration to sort out  tools and toys.

If you find matches or lighters, give them to an adult, to keep ourselves safe.

The NED show

Kylie brought the 'NED' show to school today.
Kylie told us a story about Ned using her yoyo.

"Today  we  watched  the  NED  show.
We  learned  about  having a good  attitude -
'Never  give  up.'
'Encourage  others.'
'Do  our  best'. "
by  Alyssa.

I  saw  the  NED  show.
I  saw  tricks  for  a  yoyo.
I  saw  Kylie  and  her  friend  Ned.
It  was   cool  at  the  hall.
by  Cassia

Kylie talked to some of the children
and asked them some questions
about goals and learning.

Sketching the Daffodils - we can 'look, draw, look',

We saw the daffodils in our class gardens
and in the gardens by the office.
It was a sunny day so we went down by the car-park
to sketch the daffodils.
Zeno, Jackson, Cassia, Tom and Maddison took some of the photos.

Here are our daffodil poems  -
The  Daffodil
Yellow, yellow daffodil,
Dancing in the sun.
Yellow, yellow daffodil,
Tells me spring has come.

A Daffodil
A little yellow cup,
A little yellow frill.
A little yellow star,
And that's a daffodil.

Welcome to Term Three and Maori Language Week

Term Three is underway.
We celebrated Maori Language Week by reading the Legends of Maui.
Here are our drawings from 'How Maui Slowed the Sun.'
We used our KidPix tools in the Orchard to create our pictures.
We know how to use a text box for our name and how to find the right folder to save our work.

Anahera and Harlynn created the slideshow from our saved work.

Planting Daffodils

Pippa got some daffodil bulbs for the children to plant.
Dugan brought us some of the daffodil bulbs for our gardens.

We had to pull out some weeds
to get the garden ready.

We had to plant the bulbs the
right way up.
Then we covered them with soil.

Logan
We will have to wait 'til spring
for them to flower.
