Welcome to Akomanga 7's Lively Learners.
We are a class of Year 1 and 2 learners at Hamilton East School, Te Kura o Kirikiriroa ki te Rawhiti. Catherine is our Kaiako. This is where we will be sharing our learning journey.
We went to the Cool Kids Kitchen to bake our potatoes. Sharon helped us wash, chop and prepare the potatoes. They were really tasty. We got them ready to share at the Harvest Festival.
We also made crunchy potato balls.
Here is the recipe: Potato Balls 2 cups of very stiff mashed potatoes 1 cup of grated cheddar cheese 1 egg (beaten) salt & pepper (to taste) 2 tbsp flour 1-3/4 cup crushed cornflakes 1. In a bowl, combine the potatoes, cheese, egg, salt, pepper and enough flour to make a stiff mixture. Chill. 2. Shape into 1 inch balls and roll in cornflakes and place on a greased baking tray. 3. Bake at 300* for 25-30 minutes. - makes about 4 dozen. Eat while warm. http://www.tasteofhome.com/recipes/crunchy-potato-balls
Today was 'Balloon Day'. We were so excited about going to see the hot air balloon. Then we saw that our butterfly had hatched out of its chrysalis - that was so amazing. We had been looking at the chrysalis every day. After morning tea we walked up to Marion School.
We watched them unpack the balloon and the basket. Then they inflated the balloon - it was really, really big!
Today we went to the Kitchen garden to dig up our potatoes. We are getting ready for the Harvest Festival next week. It was fun finding the potatoes in the garden. Some were big and some were small.
We enjoyed our visit to the school kitchen garden. We hope there are lots of potatoes hiding underground. We will find out next week how many potatoes there are in our garden.
