The Moon

We have been watching some science videos to learn more about the moon.
We saw the astronauts that were the first to land on the moon.
We learned about the phases of the moon.
We made the phases of the moon with playdough.

These are some of our ideas about the moon -
Riley wrote -
The moon changes shape because sometimes the earth is in the way of the sunlight.
Reefton wrote -
I went to the moon. It was quiet. I saw rocks.
Mahir wrote -
The moon has no gravity or food and water because there is no air.
One day I want to go to the moon.
When I was little, like five years old, I still remember one thing about the moon.
There is sand and we can build sandcastles.
I have made a sandcastle.
There is a rocket on the moon.

We made moonscapes by painting on black paper then we made craters by printing with different sized circles.

We used the playdough to make a moonscape. We added some sand and some flour, then we dropped a rock on it to make craters. We have been making moon buggies with the lego and the mobilo.

Planet Earth and Beyond

Our inquiry this term is science based. We will be finding out about our planet and the solar system. We started by asking questions and wondering  - 'what is this ?'

Over the four days we got really good at being curious and asking questions.
Then we worked together to find out what the pictures were. We looked at some books about the earth and the planets to see if we could find pictures that looked the same.

Learning with Firefighter Sam

Firefighter Sam came to school today.
She told us about her job.
She checked if we were being Firewise.

We were learning how fast fires can start and grow bigger quickly.

We learned that a fire needs 3 things to start -

The important Firewise messages are -
Matches and Lighters are tools for adults not toys for children.
We need smoke alarms that work!
'Get down, Get Low and Get Out Fast' if there is a fire and the smoke alarm goes off.

The new playground on Middle Flat has started . . .

Ari said,
"We saw a digger. It was digging up the dirt. It was making a wall so the dirt didn't fall on the bank. The digger was making the wall to make a playground."

Working with Project Energise

We practised Large Ball Skills with Jonno on the courts today.

Ayla said,
"We were learning how to throw the ball. We could dribble and bounce. We chased the ball a lot because it was tricky.

Firewise

We have been learning how to be 'Firewise'.
We are learning how important it is to have smoke alarms in our house and to make sure that they work.

Louie said,
"A smoke alarm can detect smoke before you can. When you are asleep you cannot smell smoke. You need a smoke alarm that wakes you up."
