The Icon Trip was awesome!

The bus ride was fun even though it had been raining.

First we saw Greenslade House - it was like a castle.

Then we saw the Wellington Street beach.

Everyone said "WOW" when they saw the cloak at the Hamilton Gardens.

It was big and it had lots of patterns.
Then we went to see the Rotunda but it was hard to see through the windows.
We saw three statues - the Anzac memorial, Riff Raff and the Farming Family.
The Riff Raff statue was amazing.
We even went over the Fairfield bridge.
The bumpy bridge was fantastic because it was different.
We went over 5 bridges altogether.

When we got back to school, we sat in the sun and drew our favourite place in Hamilton.
What a great day!

Thank you to our parent helpers who came along on the trip.

The Powhiri

Yesterday we went to Hukanui Marae - Vanessa
When we went through the gateway we had a powhiri.  - Vanessa
We saw some people there.
The people were talking to us.

They were singing a song.
We sang a song to them - Lucian

At the Hukanui Marae

After our visit to the marae, the children shared their ideas about the most interesting things they had seen -
Rohan noticed that the carving of the wharenui had lines around the mouth of the top head - it gave it more expression on the face.
Andrew liked the picture of the old maori chief.
Daniel thought the Maori queen looked old.
Nia noticed that the walls in the whare nui were made out of woven flax panels
Wynter had been looking carefully because she noticed that our waharoa is different to their waharoa.
Paula thought the whanau photos in the whare nui were interesting.
Vanessa liked the carvings on the whare nui.

Mornings in Room 4

In the mornings before school, the Room 4 children play co-operatively. They are very creative and enjoy designing new models with the equipment. The children work in pairs with the construction equipment. This encourages conversations and the sharing of ideas for planning and problem solving.

Some children like to share books and some like to work together to help each other learn new words.
